International Women’s Day is not only important for us (as women) but is a great opportunity for your small biz.

Every year on March 8th International Women’s Day aims to highlight the contributions women make, considers gender equality and how we can be more inclusive.

It is a celebration of the amazing women of this world and a great opportunity for small biz owners to get involved and help #BreakTheBias.

What content can you create as a small biz owner to celebrate IWD.

The theme for 2022 is #BreakTheBias:

“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.” — IWD campaign

There is so much content you can create around this and opportunity to grow!

Just remember, this is NOT so much about selling your products or services, rather it is a celebration of women. Use this day to engage and attract people to your small biz, show them HOW you embrace IWD and all it represents.

Show your support on Social Media

With the #breakthebias theme this year, you can post a photo of you with your arms crossed in front of you.

“Strike the IWD 2022 pose and share your #BreakTheBias image, video, resources, presentation or articles on social media using #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias to encourage further people to commit to helping forge an inclusive world.” — IWD campaign

The importance of these social media posts is to start a conversation.

Strike the pose and post to social media with a caption:

  • Tell a story of how you have actively worked to break the bias.
  • Tell how your small biz creates gender equality
  • Ask your audience for THEIR story with inequality
  • Ask your audience how they challenge the gender gaps or what IWD means to them.
  • Or simply say thank you!

And remember…this doesn’t have to be a static post! Get creative and make a video for Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, create a reel or even a podcast.

Shine the spotlight on a staff member

IWD is a great opportunity for small biz owners (especially women-owned) to shine the spotlight on an employee.

Introduce your customers to the faces behind the biz and tell them your stories!

Give a shout out or thank you to a female employee, or even a loyal customer.

Tell your story!

As a woman-owned company or business, I bet you have an amazing story to tell!

IWD is a fantastic opportunity for you to tell your audience the HOW and WHY of your small biz.

Ideas to create a compelling story:

  • Be honest and personable.
  • Tell how and why you started your small biz.
  • Let your audience know how your small biz promotes gender equality.
  • Ask questions and engage!

Support women owned businesses!

I mean, this should really go without saying right!?

The whole point of IWD is to support and celebrate women!

A great way is to choose some of your favourite women-owned small businesses and give them a shout-out on Social Media or emails.

You can even reach out and ask if they would like to do a joint competition, give away or some other form of collaboration for IWD!

These are just a few ways you can celebrate IWD whilst growing your small biz.

You are WOMAN, hear you ROAR!

But don’t forget amongst all the business to celebrate the most important woman in your life….YOU!

You are amazing! You are a super star!

I applaud you, all your achievements and your hard work.

In the words of Helen Reddy:

You are a woman, you are strong, you are invincible!

Blast the song, dance and celebrate YOU! 💃🕺🥳🎉
