My Weekly WTA: What The Ah-ha Moments — Issue 16

I wanted to do shoutouts to authors, and I was going to do it in a newsletter, but everyone is doing one of those, it seems. I recently deleted most of the ones I subscribed to and didn’t even read the ones I think are stellar.

I decided that starting my own was not the best investment of my time. However, I still wanted to put together a piece highlighting things I learned or authors that made me laugh hysterically -in a good way.

The weekend is here and it’s time for another week of WTA picks.

For all of you celebrating that special day this week where cupid strikes with love and romance — Happy Valentine’s Day, my fellow LoMs (Lovers of Medium) šŸ’Ÿ

So, let’s jump right in for some major šŸ˜‚ and šŸ˜‚

The first article on my list by Chris Yanda looks at the day in his dog’s life. He’s particularly perplexed why dogs don’t read and elaborates in detail on the matter.

It’s a well-thought-out argument with reasonable conclusions that will have you spitting out your coffee in laughter.

Now this next one will have you going šŸ¤”

This is an interesting piece by Alina Pitt about the concept of reverse aging. She posits the question of living for 300 years and the possibility of that being a reality someday.

This one is a real thinker 🧐

Next up will also make you go šŸ¤”

This is a deeply personal look at leaving your job and country to be a stay-at-home mom from inthewaves.

It’s a moving article that looks at feminism, domestic abuse, and being a single mom.

Now for a little Medium news that will have you šŸ¤” and šŸ˜‚

Mark Suroviec, M.Ed. goes hunting for bots. Need I say more to intrigue you into reading this?

We’ve all experienced the new spam attacks, but now they are hitting our subscriber inboxes with the same email from what looks like multiple accounts. After reading this, I looked at mine to ensure I didn’t have any of the little leeches and suggest you do the same.

Another Medium pick will have šŸ¤”

This next one by Marilyn Flower, one of the amazing editors from Middle-Pause, gives some writing advice.

She gives some of the best tips on creating headlines and what Medium is looking for that I’ve come across.

Bonus Valentine’s Day pick that will have you 😘

By now, most of you know how much I love research. Well, Kathleen Murphy provides a fascinating scientific look at kissing. So, pucker up for a fun read.

Finally, one of mine that will have you seriously šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

This piece on inequality takes a historical look at women concerning careers, violence, and politics. Did you know it wasn’t until 1993 that marital rape wasn’t a crime in all 50 states in the U.S.?

How about how Globally, approximately one in three women experience physical or sexual partner violence, non-partner sexual assaults, or both — at least once in their lifetime.

It’s a thought-provoking piece on female inequality and how not too long ago, we didn’t have many laws protecting us. It also highlights the ongoing work needed.

Happy Reading šŸ“ƒ

In the meantime, I will keep discovering, keep laughing, and keep the ā€˜ah-ha’ moments coming. So, Stay tuned for more exciting thoughts next time that will make you go Hmmm šŸ¤” or LOL šŸ˜‚.
