Inspiring Other Writers Can Help Motivate and Inspire Yourself

Are there certain writers and stories that compel you to go to the keyboard and write?

There is one important thing I’ve come to discover about inspiring other writers and trying to help them grow and improve in their writing life.

When we veteran writers inspire newbies or even writers who have been around for a while, we actually end up motivating and inspiring ourselves as well.

No matter who we are, our writing tips can be of benefit, when we base the writing advice on sound concepts and strategies. It doesn’t matter if we’ve been writing for 10 days or 10 years.

Keep reading and notice the benefits of allowing yourself to be inspired and motivated by the writing and the comments of other writers.

Connecting with a Writing Community

Some new writers, and even some of us old timers, may have trouble when it comes to connecting with a writing community.

If you’re not used to engaging online, or social media interactions, finding your place in the writing community may not come easy to you.

This may be hard for some people to believe (since I’ve been leaving such long and prolific comments on people’s stories), but I used to suck at interacting with the writing community.

I always felt like I didn’t have time to try and play nice and make friends online, even if they happened to be writer friends. Now I know better.

Since I returned to the Medium platform this past May (2021), I’ve really made a point of reaching out and trying to get to know other writers, and I’m LOVING EVERY MINUTE!

Now, when I wake up in the morning, Medium is what I look forward to. Not just the writing and publishing stories (which I absolutely love), but also to see what my new writing friends are up to.

Inspirational Writers

Many of you already know exactly what I’m talking about. You probably have certain writers and stories that have compelled you to go to your keyboard and start writing about one topic or another.

This is a beautiful thing, but only if we allow it to move us in the right way, and at the right time.

As you consider the following encounter I had recently, think about something you’ve read lately, that might have made you want to speak on that same subject.

Did you immediately go to your computer and take up the baton that had been passed to you? If you didn’t, ask yourself why. There’s no need to be shy, or feel like maybe the other writer will think you’re copying their idea.

Trust me, it’s okay; this isn’t elementary school, and in most cases, when you do something similar to someone else (but put your own spin on it), they feel flattered.

So think about some inspirational and motivational writers you can flatter, by picking up on a topic they may have written on, and giving it your own personal spin.

A Notable Profile

Alright, so I read an interesting profile the other day. It was Medium member Marie Vonow’s profile, and on it, she mentioned that she “Loves owls and echidnas.”

I don’t know how many other people read that profile and didn’t know what the heck a “echidna” was, but I had to find out. After a quick Google search, I confirmed my suspicions that it was some kind of little critter.

I made a comment to Marie about it, and when she responded to me, she indicated I had given her the inspiration for her next story. When last I checked (a few minutes ago), the story wasn’t posted yet, but Marie wrote and assured me she’s working on it.

So in case anyone wants to know all about the Australian echidna, be sure to follow Marie, and keep an eye out for the story.

If it hadn’t been for Marie’s notable profile, that encounter would have never happened.

Now, as a result, I pay even more attention to the profiles I read, and I’m also more mindful of the comments I leave, recognizing that people read them and take them to heart.

The TAKEAWAY

It’s safe to say, when writers continue to uplift, inspire and motivate one another, everyone benefits, even the readers (as in the non-writers). Just think, whenever Marie is done with the story, readers get to learn all about a creature that most of us never even heard of (I can’t wait).

Keeping in mind that every reader on the Medium platform is not necessarily a writer, we work hard trying to create content that is the right balance between informative and entertaining.

But in the process of writing for the entire online community, we also need to remember that we are writing for our fellow brothers and sisters in the writing community.

Not only was Marie inspired, but she motivated and inspired me also, otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this Medium story right now.

Since that is the case, do your best to be inspirational in all your writing, no matter what level of writer you happen to be.
