The Practice

Inspired, Once Again, by Seth Godin’s Upcoming Book — The Practice

Words that stuck with me this evening.

I came across a recent interview with Seth Godin, thanks to Google stalking my every move, and… I JUST LOVE SETH.

The interview is about Seth’s new book, The Practice: Shipping Creative Work, out this November. (Just added to my reading list). You can read more about the book here.

I want to take a moment to highlight some of Seth’s words that resonated with me this evening.

Creativity is a skill, not a talent. It can be learned. If we trust ourselves, we can do more than we ever imagined.

Creative is a choice.

Be of service.

Do work that matters.

It’s not something to wish for or to be afraid of. Find your voice and share it.

Find a way to show up with your best work.

It’s the trying. It’s the showing up that matters so much.

Show up for other people.

I have not missed a day [of blogging]; I’m 7000+ posts into it. Writing a blog every day has been a fantastic practice for me. I don’t know how many people read it. I don’t seek to monetize it. That’s not what it’s for. What it’s for, I made a decision ONE TIME to write every day, so I don’t have to revisit that decision. I don’t post a blog post because I feel like it, and I don’t post a blog post because it’s perfect. I post a blog post because it’s tomorrow. And that idea helps the work move forward.

Thank you, Seth Godin, for being so inspiring.
