Abstract

"Insects Galore" is a creative literary piece that presents three whimsical limericks, each narrating an insect's story. The first limerick is about an ant named Phil who falls ill with a fever and is humorously treated with Nyquil. The second tells the tale of Charlotte, a miserly spider mafia queen who meets her demise at the hands (or paws) of a cat named Schneider. The third limerick describes a child's comical fear of crickets, leading to a humorous encounter. The limericks are a playful response to a literary prompt by Somsubhra Banerjee and are dedicated to individuals who inspired each piece, including James G Brennan and Eli Snow. The author, Paroma Sen, crafted these poems in 2021, showcasing a blend of wit and imagination in the realm of insect-inspired poetry.

Inspired Limericks

There was once an ant called Phil By temperament he was quite tranquil One day Phil caught a fever He needed a fast reliever So, Phil was put to bed with some Nyquil

Charlotte was the mafia queen of Village Spider She rarely gave a raise, was quite the miser Her employees were filled with hate They didn’t feel the slightest distaste When Charlotte was gobbled up by a cat called Schneider

There was once a child who hated crickets Seeing them, she would run into thickets One day behind her there was a creak The child jumped high with a shriek And she ran to the fence to get some pickets

And thus was the end of those crickets. And the spider. Phil’s still with us though, fully recovered from his fever.
