Indian Rapunzel

Once upon a time, when oceans were transparent and so were the hearts, there lived a beautiful girl called Rapunzel in a very big town. Her parents had wished for a child for over a decade after their wedding. When Rapunzel’s mother found out she was with child, she was elated and the whole town celebrated with her.
Now you might be wondering how the girl got her name. According to Lady tattletale, when Rapunzel’s mother was pregnant with her, they lived across a garden owned by Lady Mage. Lady Mage was a single woman who had learned quite a lot about the world through travel. The town was quite intrigued about her life as she was independent financially and lived alone in her mansion. She had traveled across Europe before deciding to settle in India, bringing the famous rapunzels with her. Lady tattletale has this vice of passing off her judgments as the town’s. But most of what she says is accurate.
Lady Mage was quite protective about her garden as she had got plants from all around the world. Rapunzel’s mother had this strangest craving to eat rapunzels from Lady Mage’s garden. She figured she wouldn’t be allowed to get any fruit from the garden as she heard Lady tattletale talking about it. So she requested her husband to fetch a few rapunzels from the garden and warned him to be careful.
Rapunzel’s father decided the best way to obtain the rapunzels was to sneak into the garden when Lady Mage was away. Unfortunately, when he was stealing the rapunzels, Lady Mage was in the garden...
“How can you dare to climb into my garden and like a thief to steal my rapunzels? You will pay for this,” said Lady Mage.
Rapunzel’s father was frightened hearing this. He begged for forgiveness. He told Lady Mage that he had only done this to satisfy his wife’s cravings for rapunzels. Lady Mage was no sorcerer, she was but a learned woman in those times.
Lady Mage befriended the couple and gave them full access to her garden. She was quite a kind-hearted and an empathetic person. The couple were mystified by her tales of travel and her advice. Lady Mage agreed to name the child on the insistence of the couple as payment to the rapunzels.
On a beautiful sunny day, a girl was born. The whole town celebrated her birth and were quite eager to know her name.
“Rapunzel” said Lady Mage
Lady Mage was like a godmother to Rapunzel. She joined her parents on weekly visits to the garden. Lady Mage taught Rapunzel to be proud of herself and be more confident. She imbibed in her all the wisdom of the world.
Rapunzel grew up to be a beautiful, kind, and empathetic person. She had splendid long hair, as fine as spun gold. She tied up her hair all the time as she worried about her mother, who warned her to be careful. She had become quite famous and loved across the town and other towns far away. People wanted to converse with her just to witness her beauty. They were surprised to see her knowledge of things and were mesmerized by her kindness.
Rapunzel had now become quite fascinated about painting landscapes and wanted to travel the world alone and make a name for herself as a painter. She found encouragement from her parents. She was quite surprised herself that her parents agreed. She had this notion all along that she would be trapped in a tower because she was so beautiful. She realized she created this tower around her with those assumptions. Lady tattletale commented that she had never seen parents agreeing to send their girl to travel alone. Rapunzel’s parents were different. They knew their child well and only wanted her to achieve more. They gave her confidence.
“If that is the ladder into the tower, then sometime I will try my luck,” Rapunzel thought.
The hair fell down, and up came her confidence. She packed her stuff, bid her parents, Lady Mage, and the town a farewell. Lady tattletale was proud to tell everyone of her accomplishments.
After a few years…
Rapunzel was now an accomplished painter. She has made her parents proud. She bought herself a mansion in a far-off land and invited her parents and Lady Mage for a visit. Her mother was very proud of her accomplishments and wished her happily ever after.
Lady tattletale came with news that Rapunzel found a partner in a musician from Italy. They are to be married. On this occasion, Rapunzel passed on this message to the town through Lady tattletale —
“I am so happy to share with you that I will be marrying soon. I wish to thank you all for supporting me through my journey. I will continue to paint more wonderful landscapes after my wedding. I am thankful to Lady Mage for all the wisdom. Passing it on to you as well- To all the people out there, your happily ever after always comes with you and not others.” — Rapunzel
