Incidents are Presented to us in a Priority Queue.

It’s our responsibility to extract and process them

Understanding the mechanisms of the mind is fundamental in bringing about inner transformation in our lives. It is only when we realize the way in which our mind functions can we take steps to work upon it.

Subconscious mind

Our subconscious mind is the storehouse of various impressions from our past life. When we get a particular stimulus, it instigates a sequence of past incidents from our memories. These incidents are presented to us in the form of a priority queue where one incident is hiding behind another incident based on their priority.

“It is our responsibility to extract an incident from this priority queue, process the emotional charge, and then change the belief responsible for the creation of the emotional charge in the first place.”

“Once we are done processing one incident the subconscious mind presents us with the next incident as if they were all lying in a priority queue.”

Most people do not know how to deal with the incidents being presented to us by the subconscious mind given a particular stimulus. This would cause them to become restless and shift their attention to other tasks so as to distract themselves. This distraction is a way of subverting the actual problem, and no positive inner transformation can be achieved in such people. Alas, they need not be hated for their inability to bring about positive transformation, as I realize it takes quite an effort to understand and implement the process of dealing with the handling of the incidents from the priority queue.

Example: Ram is undergoing a trial in a court case. Whenever a hearing date comes, Ram has anxiety. He then realized that the nearing of the hearing date acts as a stimulus and brings to his mind incidents from his past that he earlier didn’t know how to process and hence caused anxiety in him.

Ram then read about catharsis and refinement of the inner child and thought to apply it to this particular case. When the hearing date came closer, he lay down and closed his eyes. Immediately his subconscious mind presented to him the earlier incident from his past where he was fearful sitting outside the lawyer’s office and thinking about whether the lawyer would take up his case or not.

Ram then applied the process of catharsis to vent out his fear concerning the issue and then logically analyzed the situation. The worst that may have happened was that the lawyer may not have taken up his case. There were many other lawyers, and it was not the end of the world. Maybe he would have to shell out more money, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t have afforded it.

After processing the above incident that the subconscious mind presented to him, there was another incident that popped up in his mind. It is, as I mentioned coming up as the next entry from the priority queue. This time around, he remembered sitting outside the court, waiting anxiously for an important judgment of the court. His whole life was at the hands of the judge.

Ram again took this incident out of the priority queue and applied the process of catharsis to vent out his fear of the repercussions of the judgment going the other way. After removing the emotional charge, he was able to analyze the incident and came to a conclusion that the actual judgment didn’t go in his favor, but still, he managed to bring his life on track. It was just that at that time, it felt that his life would have crumbled but actually, being hale and hearty, now demonstrates that his earlier held belief was wrong.

Thus, in this way, Ram was able to extract one incident after the other from the subconscious mind and process them. This effective handling of the incidents eventually brought about permanent change in the well-being of Ram.

We eventually become sensitive.

When we start the journey of self-transformation, we are actually living in an artificially created shell that we would eventually like to come out of. When we are in the shell, then we are not bothered by little incidents from our past. It is only the major incidents that have an effect on us. This shell helps us function in our lives by shielding us from subconscious fears from our past.

But as we peel off layers after layers from this artificially created shell, then we become more sensitive to even minor incidents from our past that may have affected us earlier.

Example: Ram applied the process of catharsis and refinement of the inner child to bring down his anxiety pertaining to the court case. This is analogous to him peeling off layers from his artificially created shell and becoming more prone to even the minor incidents from his past.

He realized that watching any lawyer on the street would remind him of his interaction with his local lawyer, who would aggravate his anxiety pertaining to the court case. Previously Ram was affected by the major incidents from his past pertaining to the court case, but now he has to deal with even the minor incidents from his past.

Thus, we become sensitive and are affected by minor incidents from our past that may have caused us to fear earlier. It is our responsibility to work upon those incidents, too, if we want to reach a state of complete freedom from anxiety.

Conclusion

We realize that our subconscious mind wants to free us from our fears. Given a stimulus, it does present to us the various incidents from our past in the form of a priority queue. It is our responsibility to extract the incident from this priority queue and process them completely before moving on to the next incident from the queue. Working our way through the list would eventually make us more sensitive to even minor incidents from our past. Eventually, we will become a person who is free of even the slightest discomfort and become a more creative person who enjoys every moment. Living in the present would then come naturally to us.
