In the Name of Greed

Haibun writing challenge continues; poem #3

Mounds of dried dirt crumble beside yellow bulldozers while a torn poster announcing the site of future condos flaps against aluminum fencing. Huge metal canisters stand erect, smothering the grasses in the field.

Two dump trucks pull to a stop, engines rumbling as they pour gravel onto the ground. Residual dust floats into the air to settle eventually onto neighboring developments built last year, still waiting for new residents.

Skinny deer nibble on clumps of grass, greedily searching for enough.
