In My Distant Elusive Dream You Love Me

I choose to learn through love. Weekend prompt for 1/24/21. Thank you, Diana C.

The early light of dawn comes up too soon. I’m not about to rush off on another drudgery. The energy of the morning does not excite me. My ideas and agendas have not quite taken over the stillness of the day.

I used to love the break of day. It brought hope, anticipation for a new beginning.

But lately, I’m no longer excited to see the first streak of light. I don’t look forward to getting out of bed. The dayshine informs me it’s time to wake, to release my visions of the night and to exit my dreamland, bidding me to walk away from my place of joy. I have to depart and come back to the real world.

The watchers laughed at me and said I’m foolish. They call me a dreamer. They say this is not real. When the sun comes up, I’d have to return to where my soles touch the ground, to move away from that which I’ve created on a whim and accept what is fixed and real. Give up your silly illusions, they say, and discard your thoughtless, fatuous fantasies.

But I pray to the gods that the stars above would not dim their light now. I pray that the portal to the land of my dream world continues to blaze. I pretend to be asleep, to remain in this realm of improbability, a deceptive appearance of my imagination. Because in my distant elusive dream, you’re with me. In my distant elusive dream, you love me.

I close my eyes and I’m drawn in. Lustrous, glimmery, radiant. You held my hand and led me through the land of wonder. We ascend upward, traverse soft billowing clouds, move through a landscape of enchantment in the sky.

We fly higher and further leaving the world behind till everything beneath appears as tiny specks of light.

Such a dazzling sight, joyously unrestrained, inexhaustible, joie-de-vivre. I take in every moment of this expanding horizon in this parallel universe that exists for only you and me.

Here I don’t have to pretend. Here I’m free, liberated, unencumbered. I let go of myself, of my heart. To gain freedom, to venture unfamiliar grounds.

I take it all in. To be at one with this moment, just breathing, just savouring. Crafting memories together, longer than the outstretched path ahead. We’re in no hurry to make our way home.

I’m losing grip, bit by bit as our worlds collide in mad passionate intensity. I’ll never let go. Our bodies entwined like branches, breath flow as one, hearts beating in rhythm. Moments become endless. I’m falling, falling, falling through time and space. I’m falling, falling, falling through stars and sky.

Can someone tell me what all this means? I don’t know and I don’t even care. All I know is, when you’re with me, my world is on pause. This is where I want to remain. In my distant elusive dream, you love me.

Rays of brilliant colors softly pierce through the curtains. The warmth of the morning sun welcomes the day. Outside, the birds are serenading their wondrous sounds. I hope when I open my eyes, somehow you’ll be right here beside me.

But I’m reluctant. I don’t even know if this is real. So I allow myself to fall back deeper. And once again, I’m drawn into that world. I’m back in your arms. Because you see, in my distant elusive dream, you love me.

I am awake once again, for the sun rises all the same. Morning forced its way through. It refuses to compromise. But I’ll keep my dreams with me until the stars return once more and I look forward to the next venture in the distant world.

Thanks to Marcus.
