In Awe of the Sky and With the Sky
Some moments can’t be captured or described

But I still tried.
It had been raining all morning long. The fog had been hanging low in the valley and a light drizzle was continuing for hours. I could barely see the forest on the other side of the valley.
This isn’t the fall I know. This isn’t about the golden October. This is a wet and cold winter day. It’s November gray. But it’s nature. And therefore it’s part of life.
I wasn’t expecting to see the sun all day long. I had cleaned the flat during the morning hours and was sitting on the couch reading Medium articles of my favorite writers when I asked my husband if it still rained outside. I couldn’t see it very well from my position.
He said no. He said the rain had stopped for the day. And he should be right. A few hours later I got to see some blue skies. And the sun!
Cotton wool clouds were decorating the sky. And it was a beautiful sky. A deep blue sky. Like ocean blue. I was in awe standing on our terrace looking up.
What a beautiful day. I would have never imagined this. Not today. From all the days, for sure I’ve seen some spectacular skies over here. But not today. I didn’t even know where the line of the horizon was this morning.
And now this.

Of course, I ran inside grabbing my camera. I removed the zoom lens because no zoom would be able to capture the whole scene. The sky was wide. The beauty, endless.

The clouds were growing thicker on the horizon where the sun was going to set. But there was just enough space for the sun rays to light up the valley. Just enough space to peek through.
And at the end of the valley, a soft layer of clouds was covering the town of Miltenberg. It looked like a blanket had been placed on the city. Time to go to bed.

The temperatures are dropping now rapidly. But the beauty is still up there. On the sky. In the cotton wool clouds. In the ocean-blue skies. And in the magic of the moment.
I was in awe.

It was time to set the table for our dinner. I didn’t want to leave the moment but the sun told me it was time to go. Just after I left she disappeared behind the clouds. All the magic was gone.
For now.

But I know, she will be back. The sun is going to greet us with an epic sunrise tomorrow morning. I got a feeling. It’s going to be a cold night. But the morning will be pretty. Just be patient.
Patient for the next moment of awe.
“It’s simple things, like a glowing sunset, the sound of a running stream or the fresh smell in a meadow that cause us to pause and marvel at the wonder of life, to contemplate its meaning and significance. Who can hold an autumn leaf in their hand, or sift the warm white sand on the beach, and not wonder at the creator of it all?” — Wendy Moore
