In 2023, I Stopped Being a Corporate “Number” and Started Being Me!

My 2023 was filled with so many highlights, it was an incredible year!

The were many personal milestones, as well as “side hustle” ones.

There is one moment that was more important than all the others, one that has altered my life, and the Minimalist Hustler brand forever!

It all started on Monday, August 28th when a senior vice president for the company I had been working at for almost 20 years sent me an email:

Jamie,

I need to meet with you in person to discuss some pricing. Can you come to head office tomorrow for 11 am?

Seems like a somewhat reasonable request, however, I hadn’t been to the office in over 3 years, and normally we just discuss these things by email or over the phone, so I was a bit suspicious.

I said: “Yes, absolutely, see you tomorrow”.

Then, I went to see my wife.

She asked if I thought they would lay me off.

I chuckled and said:

No, I think they want to take a picture to post on their social media since my 20th anniversary is coming up!

Boy was I wrong!

I didn’t suspect it, because I was running my division, and was highly profitable. I had also survived the dozens of other layoffs over the years.
