Improve your Health by Getting Away

This is NOT another health advice article!

It seems these days we are bombarded with advice on what to eat when what exercise to do and how often. This is not to mention all the things we’re not supposed to do, such as enjoying a good glass of wine.

I’m certainly not a health expert, but I do have a little recommendation for your general sense of well-being — getaway a few days!

Most people are homebodies. We feel comfortable being in the place we know — sleeping in our own bed, preparing food in our own kitchen. We like everything set up as we like for the life we have chosen. As we grow older, this is a stronger urge. For some, it can be hard to budge.

However happy you are with it; I recommend taking a break from the routine. It doesn’t need to go for long — a day or two can bring a big sense of refreshment. Going somewhere else and living a slightly different life on occasion can have enormous benefits.

You will be surprised by the effect.

It’s best if the break is a complete one. If you live in the city, a getaway to the countryside. Visit someone, take a drive around and see the views, and generally relax in the complete change of surroundings.

The air will feel different. The views will be different. All are a long way from urban life.

Maybe you live in the country. Why not take a trip to a nearby town or a distant city — see the sights, take in a show, enjoy walking and browsing around the shops? You will come back refreshed.

They say a change is as good as a rest. A change provides a rest.

If you are watching your pennies, a short break doesn’t have to be expensive. Although some love the luxury of a nice hotel, we can also get a good break in a simple Air B&B.

Maybe you can stay with friends — or do an exchange. You don’t have to eat out, although that brings its own pleasures. You can have a break and still keep costs to a minimum.

Then there are those planned vacations we take to a place we have always wanted to go to. If you want a real change you might decide to go on a major trip to a foreign country or continent.

Such vacations have, of course, the same effect. They take you away from your routine and get you exposed to new and different things. They do require more planning and are a lot more expensive.

Or it can be a regular trip to visit family who lives far away.

Strange as it may sound, one of the nicest things about a short break is coming home. This is because home is the place where you feel most comfortable. After your trip away from it, it feels new and different. You see it with new eyes. And you are very happy to be there.
