Immolation

How many times Must I remake myself Ashes becoming Character coats Begging questions Dared not asked Just because I can Should I?

Reinvention costs everything Demolition Destruction Devastation Who will pick up the pieces When everyone says Go do your work?

I must fetch for myself All the ones that mean Something still And rearrange everything And who will say If what I become Is any better Then the what I was?

When lessons learned Become ire to the next Corners become painted And there is nowhere left to go I must find my own blaze To burn for my own truth And if that flame attracts another So be it I will not change it again

Until the next time When you hand me the match And say please with your eyes Seeing what you need Instead of what is within The heart before you

I wrote this poem for last week’s Battle, but due to circumstances, I was unable to post it prior to Saturday morning, so I’m presenting it separately here. It is a write about being mis-seen or simply unseen, where those that meet us calculate our worth based on their needs, and not for who we are…
