Imagine You Have Just One Year Left To Live
How Would You Live Your Last Year?
In this exercise, you will imagine that you have just one year left to live. What would you do with your life? Please respond to the following questions:
- How would you spend this one year? How would you make the most of your remaining time on Earth? How would you collect moments of awe, flow, love, curiosity, and amazement?
- What are some of the activities you would take up? What do you really enjoy doing and how can you do more of it? What are on your bucket list of things to do? Think of at least 10 activities.
- How would you change your current life? What are the top changes you would like to implement?
- What are the things that you normally keep postponing in your life, but now you would like to bring to life? Make a list.
- What are the things that you would no longer do? Things that waste your energy or time? Things you do not like? Make a list.
- What are the things that you would ensure before you die? For example, prepare your will — how would it look like?
- Write a long letter to someone you love, such as your partner or family member.
- Write down your fantasy obituary now. How would you summarize your life and legacy? What would people remember you for? What makes you most proud? What are the greatest accomplishments of your life? How would you describe this fascinating and fulfilled version of yourself and your life?
- Think about who you truly are and how you will explore who you are. Where is your soul? How can you go deeper to explore it and express it freely? What keeps you getting excited and makes you feel most alive? Where is your greatest vision about yourself? What do you stand for? If you were to write a book that is guaranteed to be a bestseller, what would it be about? Write a letter to yourself on these topics.
- Having realized the fragility of your life, what are the top lessons of wisdom that you take away from this reflective exercise?
