How Would You Talk To Your Angel?

All major religions in the world have the concept of angels accompanying us. Bear with me if you do not have any spiritual or religious beliefs. Think of this as an intellectual exercise if you cannot bear the ideas of faith or religion.

If you are a believer, please note that we will play with ideas for the sake of curiosity and imagination. Try to keep your mind open to possibilities as you engage in the exercises.

In this exercise, imagine that you have a guardian angel with you at all times. This will a creative journey, as well as a spiritual one.

Please respond to the following questions:

  1. Think of your guardian angel as a spiritual resource you can tap into when you face difficulties or when you want to relax. Write a story where you face an insurmountable obstacle. You ask for help and inspiration from your guardian angel. Trying hard, you find a creative solution which you would never have guessed. Write down your story.
  2. When you get up in the morning, find a quiet place. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, meditate, and write down what you want from the day ahead of you. This is your morning diary (wishes and goals section). Imagine that your guardian angel sees what you have written and provides you directions to go forward. Use your imagination and visualization to articulate your wishes. What do you wish to accomplish today? What are your top 3 priorities? How can you best tackle them? If you had just two hours in your workday, what would you be working on? Think of high priority, high value, and high impact actions. Implement them in two hours.
  3. What are the things that worry you most today? Anxieties, fears, stress factors…Write all of them down in your morning diary (worries section). How can you best address or tackle them? Listen to your guardian angel who will guide and assist you in the best direction. Write down your reflections or resolutions.
  4. Imagine a case where you are about to make an important and complex decision and feel very divided between two options. Imagine one option is whispered to you by a demon and the other option by an angel. The angel’s option is extremely hard, and you cannot be bothered by it, so you follow the demon’s advice. You face unexpected consequences and regret your decision. Write a story about your experience and what you learn from it.
  5. Following up on the exercise above, you are again listening to two voices inside you. You act on what you believe to be the angel’s advice. However, you realize in terror that you have actually acted on the demon’s advice without realizing it. Perhaps you have alienated your friend or broken someone’s heart. What has caused this radical mistake? Were you ignorant? Did you have ‘holier-than-thou’ attitudes towards others? Write down a story accounting for your mistake and what you learn from it. How do you change and go forward?
  6. Write down a letter to your guardian angel about the year 2021. What do you want from this year? Tell your angel exactly what you want assistance with: Career wishes? Fitness and health? Money issues? Romance? All of them? Make a list of all. What are your top desires? Try to visualize what you want in all details. Write them down. Did you realize any insights, tips, or ideas on how to make progress on any of these goals or wishes? Do you have any emergent reflections or realizations? Treat these as messages from your guardian angel who inspires you and immediately act on these messages.
  7. Imagine a day in your life when your guardian angel has prevented you from countless mistakes, accidents, and foolish decisions (without you being aware of any of these). Write down a funny story about this day. You can also use storyboarding or doodling to illustrate this story.
  8. Imagine an instance in your daily life where your guardian angel has given you a subtle sign. This might be a gentle breeze, a strange sensation, or a sudden realization. Write down a short story about it.
  9. Write down a letter to your guardian angel about a day in your life when you have solved a significant problem or overcome an obstacle. Express your gratitude for your angel who says ‘I was there for you’.
  10. Write down a letter to your guardian angel about the worst day in your life. You might have had some significant troubles, for example. You might want to rant or complain about the fact that you received no help from your angel. You might perhaps ask: Why were you not there for me? You may share your frustration. You might ask philosophical questions. Or, you might share hard lessons and wisdom you have learned from the experience. The choice is yours. Write down your letter.
  11. This time, imagine that your guardian angel writes a letter to you. Perhaps this could be a letter confirming that all will be OK, you are precious, you are loved, and you are sufficient. Write down that letter.
  12. You will now write a second letter from your guardian angel to yourself: Imagine that your guardian angel is your best critical friend: Very caring and compassionate. Write down a letter warning you about your mistakes or where you could make improvements in your life. How do you stop yourself? What are the unwise things you keep doing? How can you make positive changes?
  13. Imagine that your guardian angel communicates with you through your dreams. Interpret one of your lucid and positive dreams accordingly. Describe your dream and speculate what it means.
  14. Imagine that your guardian angel is a snowflake. It is snowing and you fall in love with the snow. You remember a sweet memory and someone you love. What do you do next? What are your reflections? Write down a short story.
  15. Write down a letter to the guardian angel of a person that you love. This person might be your spouse, lover, or family member. You can share your thoughts, wishes, or prayers. You might respond to your anxieties or fears. Listen to your deepest emotions and pour your heart on paper.
  16. Guardian angels do not judge you when they see your mistakes. However, for the sake of creativity, imagine that your guardian angel is judging you while you are creating something new (like, say your mother, or your cat who always seems to judge you). Imagine a conversation between you and your guardian angel who becomes domineering and overprotective.
