Imagine You Change Careers Every Year
In this exercise, you will imagine that you need to change your career every year. Please respond to the following prompts:
- Why do you think you need to change your career or job every year? What could be the reasons behind this? Think of 7 alternative reasons.
- Imagine that you are living in a collective and futurist society where individuals are strongly encouraged to take on and try out different careers each year. You are assisted and guided by human experts as well as robots in each job. Which careers would you like to try out? Think of at least 10 different careers you would like to experiment with.
- Write a science fiction story where you are trying out different careers in this futurist society. How does it feel to change a career every year? How do you adapt? How does it feel to live as a human in the world of robots and algorithms? How do you survive and thrive? How do you spend your days? How does this new society function?
- Think about the unique benefits and challenges of shifting careers every year. What are the top 5 benefits? What are the top 5 challenges? Write them down.
- What are critical success factors for successful transition among different careers? For example, you could focus on identifying and amplifying transferable skills that can be useful across different careers. You could use job shadowing or a career induction. Think of 7 critical success factors for a successful and effective transition.
- Constant learning and curiosity will be extremely critical in future jobs. Think of 10 ways to maximize your own learning and curiosity beyond borders or disciplines.
- Future jobs will require us to navigate uncharted territories and extreme changes. How can you increase your adaptiveness, flexibility, perseverance, cognitive resilience, antifragility, and playfulness? Think of 15 small actions you can take in your daily life.
- Imagine that you have worked in 60 different jobs or careers over 60 years. Imagine that the year is 2091, and you are now 100 years old. The tradition for 100-year-old people is to write a letter to young people who are at the start of their careers. Write down this letter. What advice and suggestions would you provide them?
