Imagine You Can Regain Your Youth
In this exercise, you will imagine that you have the option and the technology to regain your youth. If you use this technology, you do not have to go back in time, and you can get 10 years younger than your current age. Please respond to the following prompts:
- Would you use this opportunity to get 10 years younger? Why or why not? How would you use this opportunity?
- Think about 10 activities you can do if you get 10 years younger. These activities should be ones that are difficult for you to do right now (such as activities that require extreme fitness, agility, ambidexterity, persistence, sleeplessness, etc.)
- With your current perspective and experiences, how would you relive your past 10 years? What would you do differently? What would you recommend to your younger self? In the light of your experiences and wisdom, what advice and suggestions would you give your younger self?
- Write a science fiction story where you instantly get 10 years younger. How does this happen? What will you do next? What kind of adventures would you like to be involved in?
- Write a story where you experience some unintended consequences of getting 10 years younger.
- Imagine that you have a machine that makes people 10 years younger. However, there is a high risk involved in this technology. What is that risk? Write a story that involves such a trade-off.
- Building on exercise 6, imagine you are selling people the option to get 10 years younger. How much would you charge for this service? Think of the business systems and opportunities associated with such a ground-breaking technology.
- Think of ways how such a technology could be possible in the future. For example, immortal jellyfish can transform their cells back to their childhood state. What can we learn from them? Write a science fiction story where inventors on longevity, bio-nano, Yamanaka factors, reverse-aging, and artificial intelligence come together to turn the clock back on aging cells. How does this freaky technology work?
- How would this technology change humanity and civilization? Think about the implications. A world where it is possible to avoid old age. How would everything change? What would be some of the risks involved?
- Building on exercise 9, write a science fiction story set in this crazy world where everyone who is extremely rich can get younger. What happens to old people who do not have money to get younger? Write a science story that explores the widening gap and inequality in this world.
- Write a dark dystopian story where this seemingly fascinating technology creates great evil. For example, a dictator similar to Hitler takes control of this technology. What happens next? Who are our heroes and how do they escape or survive this dystopia?
