QUEERLY TRANS
Imagine If Things Were Different For Transgender People
Logan’s Corner Response: A girl can dream
Logan Silkwood gave me the opportunity to depart from reality for just a moment.
I see a future for transgender people where, we are ordinary, exactly like everyone else. No need for a Transgender Day of Visibility because we would be seen. There will be no need for a Transgender Day of Remembrance because no one would kill out of hate or ignorance. No one would target transgender people. In my imagined future, hating transgender people would be akin to hating someone for being left-handed; ludicrous. I know this future can be.
I see a future where parents listen to their children and follow best practices established by pediatricians. These parents won’t be ashamed of their wonderful transgender children. No church, or hate-filled newscast, will keep parents from accepting their child. Transgender children will be able to have an open dialog with their parents. These conversations won’t result in homelessness or conversion therapy. They will be the beginning of a wonderful journey of discovery.
In my future, the church will finally listen to their own words. God doesn’t make mistakes. Transgender children are perfect just the way they are. The church will stop endorsing hate, and instead love all of God’s children as God created them.
The future I hope for will not use transgender folks as a political talking point. Transgender children will have rights granted by a political system that doesn’t prejudice against being different. Elected officials will care about the people they swear to serve.
I hope for a future where transgender healthcare is well researched and that no one will have to use a medication off-label. There will be medicine that is well researched, and specifically designed to aid in transgender health.
I would like to close with a short poem, donated by my most amazing friend ever, Jenny Starr✨…
Rainbow Dreams
I see a day, When Love reigns supreme, Perfected. Not by wanton words of woe, But by brilliant blessings of being, Not in boxes of either/or, But in spaces of colors, bright and true. Where every child can be, What they were dreamed to be, Beautifully arrayed in hues, That sing their ‘I love yous.’
Closing
Is this future certain? Of course not. Is it a dream? Absolutely. One that becomes closer with each of us that embraces our truth… Dream this dream with me, and let’s see what wonders will come…
Dream this dream with me…
