“I’m Too Busy to Workout” and Other Lies We Tell Ourselves
Have you ever caught yourself making excuses to avoid something that deep down, you know is good for you?
I know I have.
I remember before I started working out regularly, I would come up with any rationale to not go to the gym. I told myself I was too busy, too tired, or that I just didn’t feel like it.
But the real reason?
I was afraid.
I wasn’t afraid that I would fail.
No, I was afraid that I would succeed.
I knew that if I committed to a workout routine, it would require sacrificing time spent vegging out on the couch binge-watching shows. It would mean more early mornings when my bed felt extra cozy. It would require cooking healthier meals instead of ordering takeout or delivery.
In other words, choosing to work out meant choosing personal growth and long-term gains over short-term comfort.
And that was scary.
We all face these kinds of decisions in life.
Do we play it safe and stick to what’s easy and familiar? Or do we challenge ourselves to step outside our comfort zone and level up?
Well, let me tell you — after almost a year of dragging myself to the gym 5 times a week, sweating it out with weights and machines, and tracking my calories — I don’t regret any of it.
And I know if I had chosen the path of least resistance, I would always wonder: What if?
Next time you’re tempted to let fear hold you back from positive change, remember:
Our greatest triumphs often lie just outside our comfort zone.
The rewards of facing your fears today will far outweigh any temporary discomfort.
So I ask you: Are you holding yourself back?
