I’m Tired of Reading on How to Become a Better Writer, Instead of Actually Writing

A lesson learned and note to myself on what I should do instead

Do you know how many articles I’ve read on how to get people to read my stuff, how to write the best article, how to not be boring, how to sit down and… write, why people aren’t reading my articles and the list goes on and on and on?

Enough already!

I’ve unintentionally told the algorithm to plague me with articles on writing. They got me! Those little suckers keep getting me. Naturally, as a new medium user I want to know how to win. I’m itching to know every little secret, every little thing to get my articles in front of faces so I can bring in the big bucks… we all know this isn’t going to happen.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve learned from reading about writing instead of actually writing.

The Lesson

  • Just do it. Don’t think; don’t overthink; don’t read 20 articles before you get started writing, just write.
  • There’s no real secret formula. Writers write and they improve by writing.
  • Writing captivating articles takes time and doing the thing. More and more writing.
  • Write from the heart. People like when you’re being yourself, not like somebody else.
  • Don’t try too hard.
  • For goodness sake stop reading 10 articles a day on how to write blah blah blah. At some point this isn’t helpful. Doing the thing is what will make me a better writer.

If You want to become a better writer

WRITE.
