I’m Thinking of Canceling My ChatGPT Plus Subscription, Here’s Why

If you follow me, you may know that I have been using ChatGPT approximately for a year now.

You may even call me a blind fan of ChatGPT.

The reason is simple, I use ChatGPT every day for at least 3 to 4 hours, wrote a book about that, and have been writing a lot about it on Medium.

And, let me tell you, when GPT-4 came into the news, I was the one who bought it within a month.

The hope was that it would make me more productive, help me make more money, and thought to start a new side hustle based on that.

I remember at that time, when I bought the subscription I got only a few features. But soon, the OpenAI team added more features like DALLE 3, ChatGPT Vision, and so on.

Sure, I tried several features and wrote about them.

Here are some blog posts:

Even, I was generating images with DALLE 3 to write content on LinkedIn.

And later they introduced the concept of GPTs. I thought it would be going to make it big.

A number of Twitter users were hyping that you could make $10,000 a month by building GPTs, and so on.

For sure, I don’t want to name any Twitter user, but you get it right?

The result? Nothing happened so far, and I don’t think that people will be going to use GPTs instead of ChatGPT.

As for me, I extensively used DALL-E 3 in ChatGPT-4.

But, let me tell you, we can use ChatGPT-4 inside Microsoft Bing, and generate images for free.

So, it makes no sense to pay $20 simply to generate images.

For sure, ChatGPT-4 comes with some other great features too.

One is called “Browse with Bing.” This feature lets you ask questions directly inside ChatGPT-4 to get the latest info.

For example, you can ask for the most up-to-date news or search the web right within our conversation.

But, with Perplexity and Bard, you can get the same latest info for free.

With Bard
With Perplexity

Other than that, if you want human-like content, you can use Claude which gives better responses compared to ChatGPT.

Now you may be telling me that there are several plugins we can use.

Certainly, we can. But I want to mention that I haven’t tried any of the plugins yet.

Even, I don’t believe that the majority of ChatGPT users extensively use the Advanced Data Analysis feature, mainly because they don’t want some data on data analysis.

While it can certainly be helpful to some extent, it’s likely used only once a week or even just once a month.

Other than that, several AI tools like Humata, Claude, and Perplexity let you upload a PDF and then ask questions based on that.

In short, I believe I can achieve similar, if not better, results with other chatbots along with Microsoft Edge.

Therefore, I think I need to stop paying for the ChatGPT Plus subscription.

That’s it — thanks.
