I’m Taking Our 16-Year-Old Son To Get A Haircut After Lockdown. I’m thankful for YouTube
It’s harder for some of us to get a haircut than others.

My Story
Hair is an identity factor. My son has always kept his hair short and neat until Covid-19 hit. As we all went on lockdown, the haircuts stopped.
I’m not sure if he went on strike because he had watched both my husband and I lose our hair in 2020 from cancer.
Regardless of the reason, his haircuts have never gone so well. I’m hoping this time has a better ending.
As a mom who has lost her hair, I empathize when a haircut doesn’t turn out, or you want it a certain way, but others don’t understand or approve.
I’m giving up all control of his short, neat haircuts but not without helping him figure out exactly a style which he will love.
Suggestion
As parents, it’s hard to give up control and let your kids be creative in expressing who they are.
Hair is a canvas for a hair designer. We are the recipient of their masterpiece.
It’s hard to give up control, but long hair isn’t the end of the world! Either is no hair, but that’s a different story.
YouTube
I’m writing this as a Thank You note for hair designers, YouTube video providers, and my son.
My hair designer was beneficial in changing my look from brunette to blonde when my hair started growing back in after Chemotherapy. She is a true blessing. My hair was so curly and hard to manage. I’m also getting my hair cut and even colored today. Therefore, my son will be going to another designer.
I hoped by bringing a video; it wouldn’t feel like an insult. I wanted this haircut to be one that my son will love. It turned out that his hair designer was beyond qualified and very accommodating.
Conclusion
I’m sharing this story to encourage parents to lighten up on their desires for their children. We must allow our kids to grow up in a way that lets them express their style. I know it’s hard, but they must feel some control in this crazy world. It’s just hair!
Thank you, Trista Signe Ainsworth, for this inspirational publication, Thank You Notes. I was inspired to share this heartfelt thank you to my son for being a smart kid with a great personality and style.
By the way, my son loves his haircut and new hair products. Thank you, Lumos Nox Hair Salon and designers as well.
I don’t wonder where he gets his style. You should have seen his crazy dad at sixteen! I’m glad my son is going for a long-layered look instead!
