I’m So Grateful I’m Alive
is so much more than just a song
Many times, at my spiritual center, The Life Enrichment Center in Mid-Michigan, the featured song is I’m So Grateful I’m Alive by Jami Lula and Gary Lynn Floyd. Hearing this makes me want to dance and clap my hands to the beat. I see and hear the same reaction as the others who are hearing this, too.
Besides this being an upbeat song, it also has lyrics that remind me that I am too blessed to be stressed. Everything that I ever say or think or do could only be done if I am alive so, for being alive, Thank you, God!
Mooji has said that it would suffice if our only prayer was “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” This is the perfect prayer for me when I feel overcome with gratitude for my many blessings.
This morning, for instance, the temperature outside was a chilly 36 degrees F and it was raining lightly. Oreo reminded me that it was 6:00 AM and this was her time to go out.
So, we exited the condo and began a short walk. The neighboring wetlands were still and quiet. A few people in the neighborhood were leaving for work, or wherever one drives to at 6 AM.
The air was fresh and, with no breeze, the chill was not felt as much as it could have been. Oreo finished her business and looked up for permission to go home. As soon as I started that way, her step had a definite bounce that said that she was happy to have completed her mission.
When we got home, I toweled her off and gave her a treat. She immediately went back to her bed, which is next to my chair, plopped down, nestled in, and immediately went back to sleep.
Thank you, God, for giving me this experience once again of seeing my loving companion doing the two things that she does best — love and be loved.
I am now back home where I am dry and warm because the furnace is working and the roof does not leak. The windows and doors are sealed keeping the wet, cold air out and the warm, dry air in.
And Oreo is asleep at my feet with her paw resting on my foot spreading the love and keeping it warm.
Thank you, God, for keeping me alive to be able to enjoy this.
Many years ago, when our children were getting into their teens and having less and less time to spend with us ‘old folks,’ cell phones were becoming a household staple.
I began sending text messages every Saturday morning just to remind them that their mother and I loved them and were grateful that they were in our lives. Soon other family members and then some friends were added to the list.
Now, maybe 30 years later, it still goes out every Saturday morning. The wonderful takeaway from this is that many still respond to it with their love.
Occasionally I am doing something else and am distracted so do not get it out in the morning. Darned it there aren’t some texting me asking if things are all right. WOW! That’s love!
Thank you, God, for keeping me alive to be able to enjoy this.
Everything that happens or appears in my life is a blessing. “Hold it right there,” you may say. “You, like everyone, have had tragedy in your life. How can you call them blessings?”
Great question! The simple answer is if it is not a happy occasion, it is a much-needed learning experience. To truly live is to enjoy life and be happy, joyous, and free.
This does not mean that every day is all laughs and giggles. It means that when tough choices are presented, the proper one will be chosen. And for this, I am happy and grateful.
Thank you, God!
