I’m Not You

Losing your identity because of someone else’s mistakes

Photo by Jorge César on Unsplash

I started to equate my self-worth to the bad things you’ve done I had to remember, that you’re not me, and I’m not you I am my own person Your mistakes are not my mistakes Your destructive decisions are not my decisions I am not you You are not me I am not what you’ve done You are not what I’ve done

We cannot blend I cannot mend those who you’ve hurt I cannot be the one who cleans up all your dirty shirts I can’t erase what you’ve done And I have to be careful of who I become Because it can’t be you Because I’m not you I never will be Even if you will never see
