I’m Not Supposed to Be a Blogger, But Oddly Enough, I Am.

I’m not a social media person until I start blogging.

I don’t know how the hell I got here.

I’m not going to bore you with the details. But let me say that if you look at all of my social media profiles right now, you’d see I have a whopping 30 followers across all platforms.

I’m quite an introvert.

I like my privacy.

“Well how did you end up here, Khadejah? And why do you post so much?”

Short answer: I’m an introvert until I start writing.

Here’s the long answer.

I hate flexing on social media.

Some people are better at social media than others.

They can take extravagant pictures of their private jet all day. Show off their fancy new chains. Maybe ball out at some club.

I mean, people obviously like it.

Flexing isn’t horrible, but I can’t fucking do it. I’ve tried doing it a couple of times.

When I first flew out of the country to Paris and London, I thought I was on top of the world. I posted a pic of myself on Instagram standing on the Eiffel Tower with some Drake lyrics in the caption. I thought people would notice me.

Well…they did…and I don’t like it.

I felt like a Queen with her head cut off.

Why are we posting pics of our lives being rainbows when they’re not? Why are we lying to ourselves and everyone else online? Why are we so engulfed in looking rich?

Bottom line — some people actually have extravagant lives and they make flexing look great. For me, I think it’s corny.

My life isn’t all that interesting.

There’s really nothing like Medium.

I stumbled across Medium when I was trying to get my writing career going.

I was fresh off a failed anime review blog and I wanted to build something meaningful.

When I began immersing myself in this platform, I felt a different energy. Like people were genuinely here to make great content for their audience and move on with their lives. No antics.

This ended up being the best place to start my blogging career.

I only like social media when I write meaningful content.

I have no problem being vulnerable in my articles.

It’s hard to explain. I just love writing. I love putting my story out there and seeing what people learn from it.

Helping one person out is a major plus for me.

Articles are just different from your average Instagram/Twitter post. I get to write something that has meaning.

Sure, it may be dense as hell, but that’s what I love about the writing community.

We are loyal to our favorite writers We read content all the way through. We always find new ways to improve our craft.

I can’t say the same for other platforms.

Most of them are saturated with clout chasers and so-called “influencers” who’d rather post a sexy pic than post something helpful to their audience.

It’s all one giant cash grab.

I’m a blogger because I like posting real content that helps real people.

That’s why writing forced me out of my introverted cocoon.

It’s not about flexing here. You can tell the environment is different. Sure, it can be toxic sometimes, but I’ll take that over Instagram and Twitter any day.

This isn’t a cesspool.

It’s a community of talented writers who all want to see each other succeed. No animosity. No flexing. No fakeness.

Just real shit.

And that’s why I’m a blogger.
