I’m Going to Publish Something Every Day Between Now and Christmas Because Why Not?
Get ready for some ring a ding dirge, dusty drafts and holiday hokum

When I first joined Medium I ignored the multiple articles advising me to publish every day. As a lapsed blogger, I know my limits. I know my writing muse strikes in spurts, and then needs a long nap and a snack and maybe a dance party or cheesy movie fest.
It’s hard to just write write write all day, and besides, I have STANDARDS (LOL me). I have a pocketful of unpublished drafts, things that (for me) are B-grade, or lower. Not that everything I publish is amazing, far from it, but if I think I can make something better I usually spend hours revising it to the best I think it can be.
I am aware the algorithm supposedly rewards consistency, but I am not pinning any hopes on that at this point either. I have experienced a steep drop in reads and earnings since the “We totally haven’t changed anything” changes to distribution, so uh yeah. Why bother knocking myself out on the attempted literary masterpiece here at this point is my attitude.
Treat Medium like my dumb old blog, write gibberish, write journals, bad poetry, odes to hot dudes, whatEVER is my m.o. at this point. I fear Medium is a sinking ship, I could be wrong, but I know I am not alone in this from various things I have read. Major cuts to staff and ominous warnings from the ceo about the glory days of earning actual money here do not bode well.
If nothing else it will be a fun exercise. Ok maybe a torturous one. When I say every day between now and Christmas I will quantify that….30 days. What’s today. November 18th. Ok starting now. Up through December 17th…ish. I was an English major I can’t do math in my head! 30 days of posting at least once a day, regardless. Some of my “new” posts might just be shameless attempts to breathe life into/direct traffic to old articles. Why not. Who cares, Rome is dying.
Anyone care to join me in this exercise in releasing writing self flagellation and putting our imperfect Christmas puddings out into the ether? Go on, have a go! We could do prompts? I am very disorganized generally but if anyone is truly interested in a runup to Christmas writer-a-thon hit me up, I will look up some December prompts. Hey that could be my next post!
See, it’s easy. Perfectionists unite, let’s shake off the hairshirt of producing “Quality Writing” because we sure as sugar aren’t being paid for it here anymore, also it’s kinda freeing!
I will put out one prompt if anyone wants to join me.
What is a treasured Christmas memory of yours?
Let’s do a tag too, why not!
