I’m Getting Better at Medium
Slow and steady wins the race.

I’ve been writing on Medium for a month and a half now, and after much success this far, I’ve come to two conclusions.
- 1. I’m getting better at Medium.
- 2. Slow and steady wins the race.
When I joined Medium in Mid-February, I dove into its waters knowing very little. And I’ve been swimming ever since.
I thought Medium would be a great way to sharpen my writing skills, network, and earn a little side money. So far, I’ve been successful at all of that.
In the last two weeks of February, I gained 1,212 views, 701 reads, 85 fans, and 79 followers. I wrote 34 articles and earned $3.08. Not too bad for two weeks, if I say so myself.
March was my full month on Medium, and my states only grew better from February. In March, I gained 684 views, 471 reads, 176 fans, and 98 followers. I wrote 68 articles and earned $8.07.
They weren’t the best results, but there was an improvement from February. So I was happy.
Sharing my stats doesn’t bother me. It does for some people, but for me, it helps me and my fellow writers who are along on this journey with me.
Some things didn’t work out for me. I still haven’t written for a large publication like The Writing Cooperative, The Startup, or The Ascent. I still haven’t joined the $100/month club.
However, I learned many lessons along my journey.
Patience Is a Virtue.
Medium requires so much patience.
You can’t start writing on here thinking it’s going to help you quit your day job. It could, and I’m not saying it won’t, but don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
Instead, just keep writing, grow better at your craft, and hope you’re reaching out to readers.
Your time in the sun will come. And when it does, it’ll feel so good.
Money Shouldn’t Be the End Goal
Sure, it’s great to earn some green for my own words, but it should be your reason for writing.
Writing should be your reason to write. You must have a passion to write for Medium. If you don’t, you’ll hate yourself and your work. And the day you make bank will be much farther away.
So don’t think about the money. It’ll only hurt you.
Instead, keep your mind focused on the writing.
Keep Going No Matter What
There will be days you don’t want to write. There will be days when you only earn two cents from your work. There will be days when no one reads your articles.
But you have to keep going.
Don’t give up on your first failure. Instead, learn from it and move on, growing better. Find what works for you and do it.
When you stop, you’ll let yourself, your readers, and your work down. So don’t let one bad thing stop. Keep going with all you got and success will be on the way.
Closing Thoughts
Medium is such a mysterious, yet wonderful and beautiful world. It’s our chance as writers to express ourselves, grow at our craft, and earn some extra cash.
I knew Medium would be rough waters when I dove in less than two months ago, but I’ve been swimming ever since.
I’m getting better every day, and it’s brought me to the best conclusion yet: slow and steady wins the race.
