I’m Forgotten
A Poem
I’m forgotten. I have no place. They try to hide their disdain for me By wrapping it up in pretty lace
I have it together So, I need nothing I have what they want So, I receive nothing
Viewed as a shrewd Singled out like the nude There is no place to hide Yet, I’m hidden I stay out of sight Out of everyone’s view But only long enough Until I’m seen as rude
Abused and used I’m only good for winning Until they arrive And then, I’m of little use
Each year, they forget about me They say, “She has everything. So, she’s good What good for her can I do?”
I don’t need anything But I wish they gave me everything I wish I were prioritized I wish I meant more to them I wish they’d stop forgetting me And remember, I’m only human
