I’m Excited to Finally Relaunch My Substack Newsletter

I must admit, I was clueless about the platform.

I can’t believe I’ve finally gotten to this point. It has been a journey.

How I started

I started my Substack over a year ago, about the same time I started writing on Medium. I thought they were the same thing. So every time I published on Medium, I published the same article on Substack. I did this for a while.

Week after week, I continued to post. I noticed there weren’t many views, but it didn’t set off any alarms. Then one day, it hit me.

I don’t know what woke me up. I don’t remember if it was a story I read or a video I watched. I realized Substack was NOT like Medium. I didn’t do any research. I didn’t learn about the platform before publishing. I just learned how to post, and about a few of the features.

I didn’t get any views because I knew nothing about the platform. At that point, I stopped publishing on Substack until I learned about the platform.

When you don’t learn about the platform

I don’t know how many people have had the same problem. It happens a lot on many platforms. They open accounts and just start hacking away at content without understanding the platform.

Take Medium, for example. Many people come to Medium thinking it is a get-rich-quick platform. You may have heard the saying, you’ll learn the hard way. But with Medium, you’ll learn the long way. There’s no quick money here. It’s all about time. Sure, you might go viral or even get a boost, but that’s not an everyday occurrence.

Whether it’s this platform or another, people spend time frustrated or complaining because they have little or no visibility. A major problem is that they have not taken the time to learn what the platform is and how it works.

There have been many writers who have come and gone from Medium because they heard it was easy to make money. Some make a few dollars, but not the $100 mark. So they try to create stories that will sell. Sometimes they hit and more often they miss. After giving it their all, they stop writing. They are tired, frustrated, and confused by their results.

It’s always good to know the platform you’re publishing or posting on. It’s a key element to being successful and increasing your visibility.

Until we meet again, Keep Living and Writing!
