GO AHEAD, AGE
I’m Anti-Aging! Oops, I’m Dead. Arwrgh.
Opti-age, it’s the better way to go
If we are lucky, we get to grow old.
All the potions, gizmos, magic, superfoods, drugs, and research into anti-aging should help us get there, but still, be young. Right?
As we cling to youth and pursue that which will keep us forever young, the Earth continues to revolve around the sun. We, humans, utilize this motion to track the days, weeks, and years according to our need to measure time.
Ain’t it terrific, I’m 150 years old and I look and feel 34!
My memory is fantastic because all the research, science, magic, and supplements have kept my brain vibrant and elastic. My body is flexible and strong. Yay! I feel young and I’m gorgeous. Yes…let’s say that, young. And gorgeous.
That sounds wonderful and we should do it.
But wait a minute, let’s think about this a little more. I feel and look youthful, and the doctor says I am. Yet, I did age. I am older. I have taken 150 trips around the sun. I am old, and very different, compared to the person who was me when I began my 35th year.
The planet keeps going around and around and we tick off the time.
If we’ve lived 150 years, we’ve gathered 150 years of memories that are stored in those youthful brains of ours. 150 years of knowledge and experience. 150 years of relationships and occupations, 150 years of everything. We’re pretty damn wise at this point.
To be anti-anything is to be opposed to it. Why would we oppose aging?
That’s what dying does to you. It’s the ultimate anti-ager, it’s really the only true anti-ager. It will keep you forever young to those you leave behind.
“I’m 150 years old. I’ve opti-aged, not anti-aged.”
Maybe one day, we can all say that.
All this hoo-ha about finding the fountain of youth is fine and good and fabulous. If we can optimize our lifespan in good health with lotions, potions, medical breakthroughs, and fantastical thinking, and we feel like we’ll live forever, then so be it.
But let’s think of this as opti-aging. Unlike the overused idea of anti-aging, it doesn’t actually mean die young. Or much worse, “Ewww…who wants to be old?”. We should be so lucky to grow old.
I hope to opti-age to a very old age. How about you?
