I’m About To Hit 100 Followers, But I Do Not Feel Excited
A sad truth.
100 followers — that’s what you need to be accepted for the Medium Partner Program and start earning money on this platform.
I am only 5 followers short of reaching 100.
But I do not feel excited.
Why?
It’s because I do not belong to a country that is eligible for the Partner Program. What is even sadder is that I can’t even open a Stripe account (which is required for receiving payments from Medium).
I know, it sucks.
It is unfair for writers and creators that do not belong to the eligible countries.
Just because we cannot be accepted for the Partner Program doesn’t mean we cannot write good stories.
I’m sure it’s not just me that is struggling with this issue. There are many other writers with great stories who are not eligible to enroll in the program.
Medium needs to update its policies and provide opportunities for every writer across the world.
I don’t know when it’s going to happen, but I hope it happens sooner.
What’s next?
I am a writer. I love writing. These restrictions are not going to stop me from doing what I love.
Yes, it hurts not to be able to earn from this platform, even if I write stories that go viral. But, I am not going to feel sad about it and stop writing.
Instead, I will write more.
I will write on every platform I can. I will find alternative ways to make money doing what I love.
Changing Medium’s policies is not within my control. But writing good stories is.
In life, you must not be sad about the things you cannot control. Instead, focus on the things you can control.
Thanks for reading. If you like my work, please buy me a Ko-fi as I am currently unable to earn from Medium.
Any amount will be appreciated.
