I’m a Republican, Except…
when I’m not
My title is a true statement for me because although I’m registered as a Republican, I don’t think I’ve ever voted a straight republican ticket in any election, be it federal or state.
I don’t understand how anyone can adhere to any one party, one side, or one opinion, or to one particular set of political beliefs. That seems very unrealistic to me.
So maybe this makes me a Centralist? But then I totally believe we would be better off with less federal government, so does that make me a Libertarian? A few years ago, I backed a cause promoting the movement for a convention of states. So what does that make me?
I guess I appear politically confused, but this is the only way I know to describe my true political identity.
If I try to trace back any political persuasion I received growing up that doesn’t work because I was raised apolitical, which I hope is the right word because it means I had no party politics modeled for me, no one party shoved down my throat, and/or touted as the one and only.
Furthermore, neither of my parents ever even mentioned anything ‘political’. I guess then, by some strange osmosis, I acquired a republican identify simply because I grew up and still live in Kansas which is a red state.
However, I voted for our Democratic Governor, although due to her handling of COVID-19, I’ve come to regret that. So, have I started hating all Democrats? Hell no. Now with that being said, you may be wondering who I voted for in the Presidential election? Hm, I’ll let you decide if this is “your thing”. I know for a lot of people it is, so they can decide who to hate.
I think Donald Trump is the worst person who has ever entered the political arena. However, I can’t handle Hillary Clinton for her Pro-Choice stance and because she’s stayed married to Bill.
I would never vote for a person due to their sex, race, or their religion. I’m a firm believer in the fact that wolves hide inside Christian affiliations, and that being female does not automatically qualify one to become POTUS.
I abhor what happened on Jan. 6th, and do not align myself with whatever party they are. I usually back the police and our military men and women who serve. However, I know racism exists everywhere and I don’t believe in tolerating it. We have black friends, not acquaintances, who actually come to our house on occasion regardless of whether they’ve been invited or they merely drop by… How many of you can say that?
A fair statement is, I vote for whoever is the best candidate regardless of their party, although I think this makes me unique in light of how divided and polarized most of our country has become.
I tell my family and my friends I must be a ‘Unicorn’ and I want to start a political party called by that name. I’ll make up a cutesy song to describe us that goes like this, “we are the few, the proud the free-thinking unicorns. Yay yay yay. We vote as we do because of what a candidate says they will do for us, not by how well they can diss their opponent. Show us your political successes, and show us your tax statements. Give out your private address so I can see your excesses. Yay yay yay…Take off those old labels of Democrat or Republican and show me your God, if you even have one. Stop talking and start doing! Yay yay yay…
