Summary

The author adapts their writing routine to the weather, being more productive on rainy days when outdoor activities are less appealing.

Abstract

The author self-identifies as a "Rainy Day Writer," indicating a seasonal pattern to their writing productivity that aligns with the weather. During colder months, they become more contemplative and organized, using the time to write extensively. However, the onset of nice weather shifts their focus to outdoor activities such as yard work, gardening, and boating, leaving little time for writing. When the weather turns rainy and cool, especially in late spring, it prompts a return to writing, as the conditions are less conducive to being outdoors. The author acknowledges that life's unpredictable nature, with its expected and unexpected events, also influences their writing schedule.

Opinions

  • The author enjoys writing during the fall, winter, and early spring, viewing it as an ideal period for collecting and organizing thoughts.
  • Outdoor activities like yard work and boating take precedence over writing when the weather is favorable.
  • The author finds the cool and rainy weather to be an opportune time for writing, as it limits other outdoor distractions.
  • Life's events, both anticipated and unforeseen, play a significant role in the author's ability to dedicate time to writing.

I’m a Rainy Day Writer…

Today, the weather intervened.

During the fall, winter, and early spring, I take on the behavior of some of my wintering plants. I become somewhat dormant. It seems to be a time for the collection of thoughts, getting them organized, and committing them to “paper”. It’s an excellent time to write.

But then, nice weather hits, and I’m outta here!

Yard work, gardening, prepping the boat, launching the boat, and making the first runs down the river to the bay and back…doesn’t leave much time for writing.

After a lovely stretch of late spring warm weather, it’s raining and chilly today. The ocean hasn’t warmed yet, so the wind off the water brings some very cool air to accompany the moisture falling.

Life intervenes with so many other events that need to be dealt with. Some expected, some not expected.

So for today, with the weather intervening, I become a rainy-day writer.
