Summary

A commercial for a women's probiotic uses a candid approach to discuss gut health and regular bowel movements, sparking disbelief and humor from a former advertising copywriter.

Abstract

The website content describes a recent commercial promoting a women's probiotic with an unconventional tagline, "I’m a pooping woman and I approve this message," emphasizing the product's benefit to gut health and, consequently, improved bowel movements. The author, a former marketing professional, expresses astonishment at the commercial's approach, questioning the writer's intent behind the repeated use of the word "poop." The author also reflects on society's openness to discussing bodily functions and the trend of sensationalism in advertising, while humorously agreeing with Trevor Noah's sentiment that "no one shits cool."

Opinions

  • The author is surprised and amused by the directness of the commercial's message about women's digestive health.
  • There is a sense of skepticism about the effectiveness of using humor and bluntness in advertising a product related to a typically private matter.
  • The author points out the societal trend of being more open about bodily functions, suggesting it may be going too far.

“I’m a pooping woman and I approve this message.”

Oh, shit. (Pun intended.) I cannot believe a new commercial that just aired for a woman’s probiotic, which we know, is beneficial to “gut health.”

And “gut health” is, in turn, beneficial to taking a good shit for one’s self.

We all take dumps. We all let loose with the caboose. Do we really need to cram this home in a TV spot?

That title line? That was the commercial’s tagline. Sexy!

As a former advertising and marketing copywriter, I can’t help but wonder what the writer of this spot was thinking. I know we live in a society where “airing our shit” is the norm and anything remotely salacious rules, but come on!

Did the writer think using the word poop multiple times was cool?

To quote the hilarious Trevor Noah, “No one shits cool.”

No shit!
