Illusions

a poem and a reflection

We think of illusions as funky circus mirrors distorting our bodies every which way as if there is a truth to how we perceive ourselves “in neutral”.

Yet we forget that we see everything through the lens of our experiences, our environment,

and that the things we see, touch, and smell are interpreted by our brain, mistake-prone jello buddy, that flips the 2D rendition of our 3D world and interprets it into “your reality”.

We are all illusions.

Hi I’m Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她). Do you remember that black and blue dress that people also sometimes saw as gold and white? That’s what I think of a lot. Sure it was a viral meme, but it also speaks to how something as “tangible” as what colour we see on screens that are supposed to be uniform are experienced differently based on your lighting context. I think about that a lot.

Ps, feel free to tweet me your poem response and I’ll be sure to RT and share it with the world!
