Summary

The author of the article, familiar with writing for Illumination, describes a recurring issue where their tags are removed from submissions due to a possible glitch in the Medium system or their personal computer, causing inconvenience for the editors.

Abstract

The author, accustomed to the standards of Illumination, meticulously prepares articles for submission, including setting tags for SEO purposes. However, they have encountered a persistent problem where, upon submission, the tags are stripped away, leaving the articles 'tag-less.' This issue persists even after the author re-enters the tags and makes minor edits, necessitating constant vigilance to ensure the tags remain. The author is uncertain whether the fault lies with their computer or the Medium platform and seeks input from other writers who may have experienced similar difficulties. They express a heartfelt apology to the editors for any inconvenience caused by the repeated omission of tags.

Opinions

  • The author believes that the issue with disappearing tags is causing additional work for the editors and may give the impression that they are not thorough in their submission process.
  • They suspect that the problem could be due to 'naughty little gremlins' in their PC or the Medium algorithm, indicating a belief in a technical glitch rather than user error.
  • The author feels responsible for the inconvenience caused to the editors and is keen on finding a permanent solution to the tag issue.
  • They are open to the possibility that the problem might be specific to their computer and are willing to investigate further if it is confirmed that other writers do not face the same issue.
  • The author values the work of the editors and demonstrates a strong desire to maintain a professional and courteous relationship with them by minimizing avoidable errors.

Do Not Be Caught Stark Naked Tag-less !

Accustomed as I am to writing for Illumination, I do like to do things right. However, sometimes some naughty little gremlins seem to get in the system of my pc or the Medium algorithm. Kindly let me explain.

Before clicking on publish with anything I write, I go through everything to make sure all is as it should be. Knowing the amount of work that the editors have to do, I want to make things as trouble free as I can for them. One of the last things I do is go to settings to click on save for the SEO. Then I put in some tags which I save and bingo, I’m ready to submit. However…..

What took me a long time to realise was that when I click on submit to Illumination, the system dumps all my tags. And because the tags are hidden on another page I wasn’t seeing it. So the piece I had written was being submitted tag-less. The editors cannot publish and maybe think I am a dummy (which in all honesty I can be).

Also, even aware of the problem and putting the tags back in isn’t the end of it. If, whilst waiting for the piece to be published, I decide to do some minor editing and save the changes, again it will dump the tags.

I have been caught out with this numerous times now and I do not know what a permanent fix is. So I constantly have to check my tags. I do not know if this is a problem with my computer or with the Medium system. Perhaps other writers can let me know if they have had the same problem. If it is just my pc, then that will help me to narrow down the hunt for those pesky gremlins.

To any editors out there who have caught my articles and poems stark bollock naked of any tags, I apologise profusely for the trouble I have caused you.

Britni Pepper, Geetika Sethi and all other Illumination Editors who may have suffered my apparent omission of tags. My apologies to all of you for any inconvenience caused by the omission.
