Illumination — Intro

I’m not a writer.

I’m not here to promote myself or my views on the world. I’m writing in an attempt to know myself better. To try and understand how I have come to be who I am, and how I find myself where I am today. I’m writing for myself. I’m writing for my two kids. Hopefully one day they will read these stories and understand a little better where they come from.

I’ve written 2 essays which I hope to be the first in a series — snippets from a life which has been both privileged and abnormal, but not abnormally privileged. A life spent growing up in unique and beautiful environments, in societies quite unlike any others. One where the ‘usual’ was a far way from the usual. A way of life which had a huge impact on everyone from that time and those places, for both the better and the worse. And a profound impact on my own family, past and present.
