I’ll Self-Promote Like Crazy for a Week

Let’s just see what happens…

I have always self-promoted. I usually wore a sandwich board wherever I went, inviting people to read my stories.

I used Twitter a lot. I beeped and re-beeped the old Renault horn with all my stories.

In March, I read that I should limit my self-promotional tweets to only 20%.

So I backed way off. The kinder, gentler tweeter in me took the reins.

To be honest, I think I did pick up a lot more great Twitter followers during that period, but my story views dropped to a third of what they had been previously.

After a couple of weeks at the lower rate, I started to worry about this trend. so I stepped the tweets back up, not all the way, but significantly.

My views that week rose hallway back to where they were before.

I now intend to self-promote like crazy this week to see what that does.

I have decided there is a fine line to walk between polite tweeting and aggressive story promotion. I feel that although a larger Twitter following is very much to the author's advantage in many non-measurable ways, the number of reads and fans have a more direct effect on what I earn.

Thank you for your time.
