I’ll Never Forget the Chat I Had With My Nutritionist. It Looks Like I’ll Have to Give up Pizzas, Pasta, and Bread.
You are what you eat
I was having a chat with my nutritionist. “You need to watch your vitamin E levels.” “Watch it how?” “You don’t want to end up with dementia or do you?” “Of course not. That serious? But isn’t Vitamin E in leafy green vegetables?” “Yes, it is.” “Well, I have that every day. Isn’t it in mangoes?” “Yes, it is.” “I have that every week.”
“Do you take sunflower seeds?” “Not at the moment. The last time I bought them, I ended up tossing them out.” “Do you take almonds?” “Occasionally, I don’t like them so much.” “Do you use palm oil?” “Inconsistently.” “What about wheat germ oil?” “You know the answer to that. With the way you sound, I am in trouble, ain’t I?” “We will get to that. Now, most of these items I have listed have the best and highest sources of Vitamin E.” He added.
“How often do you eat bread?” “I could go an entire week and I wouldn’t miss it. But lately, I have had some every week.” “How about pasta?” “Sometimes, maybe once or twice a month.” “Do you eat pizzas?” “Yes, at least once every week.” “My dear, the bread, the pasta, and the pizzas are mostly made from refined grains. They are depleting the levels of Vitamin E you think you have, cos they are pro-inflammatory.”
“I knew this pizza feasting was going to catch up with me, eventually. Anyway, I won’t over-promise. I can include sunflower oil on my next shopping list and then continue my consumption of leafy greens, mangoes, and peanuts. I’ll give you some feedback on my next visit.” “You won’t have to. Your body will keep score.” He responded. As I left his office, I made my way to the grocery store.
