I’ll always treasure Betty White and the other Golden Girls. As the world slept, the pranks of their romantic adventures provided relief from my sadness.

A joyful heart is good medicine, Proverbs 17:22 ESV but grief robs us of our gaiety.

The Golden Girls proved the value of good entertainment. They addressed aging, widowhood, sex, and betrayal- topics submerged in pain, yet, capable of touching every funny bone in my body. They were God’s gift, as I aimlessly changed channels one sleepless night. The show became part of my bedtime routine.

During those anguished months after my husband’s death, they kept proving to me that I can laugh again and again.

They set out to entertain but they were also comforting. We never know the value of the work we do.

Rest in peace, Golden Girls.
