what we appreciate…

rock types are determined by their texture. journal entries are determined by our appreciation. we appreciate house numbers spraypainted on trailers park bench altars for those in love with another in love with Neo Soul, loving the paradox that neo means new and soul means timeless. we discover joy in tall church bells staccato birds and word flirting with strangers. joy, a city pond of ducks and swans, black combs passing through our hair like a mother’s hand. unarmed, the smell of pine in a Chinese restaurant. we look out from our table at the moon, a mandarin orange shining sweetly. listening to Billy Paul’s immaculate rendition of “Let Em’ In” on our way to London jobs, we get out of the train, go home, and go into music. and we’re still happy today.
