Summary

The article advises newcomers to affiliate marketing to avoid paid advertising initially, instead focusing on free traffic strategies such as Instagram DM marketing and eBay dropshipping, and to be wary of expensive courses sold by internet gurus.

Abstract

The author of the article expresses frustration with the misleading information prevalent in the online marketing space, particularly the push for new marketers to invest in costly coaching and courses. With personal experience spending $5,000 on such programs, the author emphasizes the importance of learning through free traffic methods. It is suggested that beginners should not engage in paid advertising, like Facebook Ads, but rather concentrate on organic strategies such as Instagram direct messaging (DM) marketing and dropshipping on eBay. The author advocates for a focus on fulfilling needs consistently and cautions against the allure of "shiny object" strategies promoted by so-called gurus. Instead, the article recommends starting a dropshipping business on eBay, promoting funnels to Instagram influencers using platforms like Kartra or Builderall, or beginning a coaching business in an area of expertise. These methods are described as low-cost, passive, and scalable, with the potential to outsource tasks to manage the business effectively.

If You’re New to Affiliate Marketing, Don’t Begin Until You Read This.

I’m sick of all the internet marketing baloney that they try to feed you in order for you to “make money online.” Consider this: I’ve spent $5,000 on coaching and courses. That is, indeed, $5,000. I paid for it with my own hard-earned money. And I’ll tell you a little secret. I learned a lot.

Facebook Ads should not be run by inexperienced users. Beginners should not run ads at all. Beginners should use beginner strategies to make money online.

“Going viral isn’t something magical that happens one day. The secret to going viral is using templates that get people to pay attention and pay.”

– Jon Youshaei, Product Marketing Manager of YouTube

What exactly do I mean by this? Methods of free traffic. Too many newcomers are swayed by the “shiny object” syndrome. “Oh, this guru seems to be doing well on Shopify,” or “Oh, this guy is making millions of dollars with native ads.”

Stop doing it. Don’t keep squandering your money on $500-$2,000 courses. The solution to making money online is right in front of you. Fill a need, and then do it again and again and again.

Only use free traffic for the first two years of your online marketing career. Don’t play with advertisements. Concentrate your efforts on things like Instagram DM marketing. Dropshipping on eBay is also an option because it is free.

I’m saddened by how many people are duped by internet gurus who take their hard-earned money and spend it on something they know their students will never succeed at. The majority of these gurus’ students fail. This is extremely telling.

If I were a complete beginner, I would start dropshipping on eBay right away, promoting funnels to IG influencers using Kartra or Builderall, or starting a coaching business on a topic you know or are an expert in.

These three methods will catapult you to success, have low to no start-up costs, and are all passive. eBay is a passive platform in the sense that once you reach a certain size, you can outsource to the Philippines.

This is my piece of advice, and please refrain from purchasing ridiculously priced courses in order to save money.
