A Simple Hack To Get You To 100K Quicker
If your six figure goal seems out of reach, try this instead
Everyone talks about making 6 figures, it’s the ultimate yearly target for many online entrepreneurs. Everyone is promising to help you get there too. It’s the business coach mantra, with books, courses and programmes revealing the secrets to a six figure income.
For lots of online business owners and freelancers, 100K is the ultimate goal, but it can feel daunting. It’s a big number that often feels out of reach. I don’t know what you’re making now, but even if it’s 50K, that still feels a hell of a way off 100k, right?
A clever entrepreneur will put a strategy in place to take it a step at a time. It would be a mighty big jump to go from 20k to 100k, but putting a plan in place to steadily increase income makes sense. However, these high numbers can still feel like too big a hurdle which can have a detrimental effect on motivation and self esteem.
Too easy to give up
We know from experience and research that setting goals that don’t feel achievable means we are more likely to give up. To reach a goal you need steps in place, but if the over arching goal is too big, progress can still be halted by doubt. This is why this hack for reaching 100K is so brilliant.
Reframe your goal to make it more achievable
To make that 100K seem more accessible, let’s look at it another way. If we can reframe the goal into something that sounds within our grasp, we are more likely to reach it, even if really the goal is the same.
Let’s look at it this way.
100K per year is £8333 per month. Now, doesn’t £8333 per month feel more achievable than 100k per year? If you are currently on 50k per year, a jump to 100K still seems massive, but somehow, making an extra £4160 per month doesn’t seem so out of reach.
We can break this down even further.
100K is 1923k per week. Again, this feels even more achievable than £8333 per month.
All it takes is for you to hit this target one month or week and you are making the same during that time period as someone earning 100K per year.
Break it into product sales
If breaking down income doesn’t do it for you, we can look at it another way. Lets define it by how many sales you need to make. You’re going to want to put in your own numbers here, but let me explain.
If you have an online course that is selling for £500, to make 100K in a year, you need to sell 200 courses. This sounds a lot, but that is just 16/17 per month. That’s just 4/5 per week! This sounds so totally achievable. Am I right?
If you sell more than one type of product, input the numbers for that too. For example you might find you need to sell 3 course and 100 books. Obviously this will be totally different for everyone.
The Rodger Bannister Effect
Once you’ve got an 8k month under your belt, you have found some solid evidence that it is something you can achieve. This will motivate you to do it again and again until you have consistent 8.3K months, resulting in your six figure year.
We know the power of the mind. Studies have shown that once we know something is possible, we are more likely to achieve it. This has been dubbed ‘The Rodger Bannister Effect’, based on the infamous time that Rodger B broke the world record for the 4 minute mile. Up until that point, no-one had come close, but once he broke the record, other runners consistently beat it too. Seeing it was possible gave them a believe that they could do it whereas before it seemed impossible. This is the effect your 8k month will have and it will help you consistently achieve it.
One step closer to that 100K
Hit an £8.3k month and you are on for a 100K per year. How much more achievable does that feel than the huge far off figure?
Good Luck!
