If You Want to Be Rich, Don’t Look For a Job

Do this instead

Most people are struggling financially. Even many of those you look up to and think are rich. They may be making a million dollars annually, but they are barely keeping up with their lifestyle expenses. So, it matters whose advice you are following when it comes to money.

Most people have never studied money and hence share advice based on their experiences. This can be very deceptive. Many people think just because something worked for them, then it should work for everyone. And life is not like that.

Don’t get me wrong — there are things you can learn from everybody’s story. However, what will work for you has to be contextual to you.

Don’t look for a good job

If you want to be rich, don’t look for a job. Don’t look for a good job.

Now, this doesn’t mean you will not have a job. Neither am I saying you should never have a job. I’m saying — don’t look for a job. Look for something else.

If you find that something else in a job, that’s fine. But you must not be in a job because you “need a job”. No matter how bad things are, look beyond the present. Play the advanced game.

Look for access — not a job

To be rich, what you need is not a job. What you need is access to the world of the rich. Access to the level of the rich.

This is very important especially if you come from a financially struggling background. What you need is not a paycheck. You should never chase a paycheck. Instead, focus on access.

If you have sat down to study how wealthy you really want to be, you know the kind of access you need to get there. The position that gives you that kind of access is what you should be looking for.

It could be a job. It could be a location. It could be an association. Your focus should be on whatever gives you that access. You should look at every job opportunity through this lens — does this give me the access I need to the rich life I desire?

If you are not sure yet, put yourself in a position where you can learn, figure things out, and see the truth for yourself. This is the first step into wealth.

Choose a fun journey

People don’t get rich because they are the best in the world at something. People get rich because they are in the right room or position for timely success.

So, don’t look for a job. Look for access. The last thing you should be worried about is how much the pay is. Look at all the other perks of the job. Do they support the access you want?

If you need something that allows you to work remotely, don’t be tempted by an offer of 50% more money but you have to show up in the office every day of the week. If you need something that keeps you in a particular city, don’t be swayed by something that takes you out.

You may not find something that is 100% perfect. But it must at least be 80% perfect and must fulfill your non-negotiable criteria.

If you don’t find something that good, make do with something that gives you a lot of room to make one. This means that you settle for something that gives you a lot of time to create or build the kind of access you require.

The most beautiful thing about this system is that you are going to love the life you are living. It’s the best path of life. Think of life as a puzzle or game. This is you playing — and this is you winning.

If you want to be rich, don’t look for a job — instead, look for access to the rich life you desire. Don’t live for where you are today — live for where you want to end up. Live an amazing life. Choose a fun journey.
