If You Seek More Connection to your Soul, try this Practice
Many of us overcomplicate spirituality

I’m gonna share a little known secret with you: the connection you seek with your soul is found in the micro moments of your day.
People tend to think of spirituality as this big, big deal — almost otherworldly. We want it. We want to get better at it. We want to feel that “buzz” of being in tune with the entire Universe all day long.
Wouldn’t that be nice? Hell yeah!
So how do we actually do this? Is there a secret formula? A code? Some deep knowledge that is only known by a selected few?
Nope. It’s none of those things. It lies in this simple and straightforward truth: start to ask yourself how you feel about each and every thing you are doing and participating in throughout the day.
Our connection to our soul is experienced by all the choices we make during our waking hours. Every single decision is either step away or towards deeper self awareness, honest self expression and authenticity.
What is the mark for how well we are connecting? The answer lies in how we feel.
How do we connect?
As humans with an ego mind (which is very misunderstood, but that’s another article), we tend to complicate things a lot. Why? Because most of us are not grounded in our own truth. We’ve very likely adopted truths from others through social programming and conditioning (especially from ages 0–7 years old) and then repeated them as our own, never stopping to dissect how these beliefs make us feel or if they are even relevant for us.
Many folks have been taught to connect with their “higher power” through the third eye or crown chakra. They tend to send their energy up and out (connecting to ego consciousness), rather than grounding it firmly into the Earth (connecting with Divine Consciousness), which is where the most important and relevant personal guidance will come from. Our root and sacral chakras are the basis of all creative energy and deep inner wisdom.
Start there first. Get more comfortable with the practice of connecting DOWN rather than UP and OUT.
This gets you more in tune with your physical body. We are all energetic and vibrational beings. We must connect with our physical home (our body) BEFORE we ask for solutions or guidance. The best way to do this is to imagine yourself growing roots into the Earth. Connect with your root chakra (base of the spine) and sacral chakra (just below your belly button). Think of this area as your pelvic bowl and get used to finding a home there. Include the legs and feet as well.
Divine truth bubbles up from below and is always simple.
How do we know if our guidance is “correct”?
Because of all the misinformation around spirituality, we’ve become doubtful of ourselves and our ability to steer our own boat. We’re constantly seeking outside validation so we don’t make some horrible mistake.
We’re also coming up against deep, deep social programming, which is so pervasive we often mistake it for our own desires, wants, needs and interests.
I wonder how many people are truly in the career they desire, if they really wanted marriage/kids or if they are as happy as they say.
When we start to scratch the surface of what our life is made up of, it can be terrifying to discover that there is not a lot of “us” in our own life. A lot of it may be a role we are playing.
So how do we start to trust the guidance we are hearing?
After you have grounded yourself (remember, connect DOWN rather than UP and OUT), start to notice how you feel verses what you think you ‘should’ do. Don’t try to make anything happen either. Relax, surrender and allow.
As stated above, divine guidance is always simple. It will never ask you to do more than one step at a time. When you connect and ask from a grounded place, the solution will be an achievable step. It could be to drink some water, go for a walk or simply sit and breathe.
Allow it to unfold naturally.
Keep in mind as well that the guidance you receive may have no logical connection to what you are asking about. If you ask for solutions on fixing your marriage, for example, you may hear something that doesn’t seem have any relation to the actual issue. Maybe you will be told to go to a specific store or text a friend for coffee. Follow through with it and see where it leads you — I guarantee it will make sense in the long run. We like things logical and in order — start to release your grip on what you think should happen and go with with you hear.
If you come away with a feeling of relief, ‘yes’-ness and calm, you are on the right track.
If you hear guidance and feel stressed, buzzy, overwhelmed or like you must do 10 things at once, that is a guarantee that you are connecting up and out, therefore mixing with everyone else’s energy in ego consciousness. You may receive *some* relevant information about your situation, but it won’t feel as resonate as guidance that comes when you connect DOWN.
Now that I’ve connected, what’s next?
This is the fun part.
After you connect, start to notice on a micro level how each and every thing you are doing makes you feel. You can’t get too specific here — in fact, getting more specific is the key. Our lives are not just in the big moments, they are in all the little moments, tasks, details and decisions.
Start to ask yourself these types of questions:
Do I like what I’m eating for breakfast?
Do I like how this dress makes me feel?
Do I like this toothpaste?
Do I like my hair color?
Do I like how I speak to myself?
Do I like how I collaborate with my clients? Friends? Spouse? Kids?
Do I really enjoy that person’s company?
Do I feel worthy when I take this action?
Do I like the flowers I buy for the kitchen?
Do I like my kitchen?
Do I like where I work?
Do I like the work I do?
Am I satisfied in my relationships?
Do I enjoy the way my bedroom is arranged?
And so on.
People have a belief that spiritual connection should feel like a really big deal. We should be buzzing, walking on air, almost like we’re high.
Wrong. And not sustainable.
Deep spiritual connection feels like ease and grace. It feels light, uncomplicated and smooth. For some, it may even edge on boring because we are so used to mixing with ego consciousness, which has a buzzy type feel to it.
As you notice things that faded into the background before, you can now make a conscious and grounded decision about what to change and what doesn’t feel good.
Throw out clothes that don’t make you feel sexy, confident and powerful. Stop buying things you don’t really want or need. Change the color of your hair or stop hanging out with people who make you feel drained.
As you take more aligned action, guess what happens? You start to feel more aligned, more comfortable, more playful and more joy.
Closing thoughts
Our connection with our soul is a moment by moment experience. It’s not some big, untouchable thing that only a few are privy to.
Everything we do, think, strive for and believe is creating our perception of our experience, thus affecting how we feel.
As you pay attention to everything that makes up your life, you will get better at discerning what works and what doesn’t — according to YOU and no one else.
Doesn’t it feel wonderful to know how powerful you are?
