You’ll never get treated on a night out

Selfish people are assholes.

Since I’m selfish too, I’ll gladly be the asshole that writes this. I’ve treated tons of essential people in my life as lapdogs. I’m the youngest in my family. I was always treated like a Queen with a silver spoon. I never received a bunch of harsh consequences because, well, I was the baby.

Now I’ve grown up and realized what a selfish person I used to be.

So here are five signs of a selfish person that you should avoid.

They have the mindset of a child

Babies are gonna cry, right?

Everyone had a soft spot for me because I was the youngest. I’ve been coddled my whole life. People would buy me Olive Garden if I cried hard enough. And if my older sister made me angry enough, I could signal our parents with my signature “She hit me!” yell and blame the whole thing on her.

It’s a sweet gig.

But I guess you can say it made me overly selfish. I expected servants to wait on me hand and foot while I sit in front of the TV all day eating cookie dough. I began only caring about my own mental and physical well-being.

When multiple people show how much they care about you, you start caring that much more about yourself — and only yourself.

That’s why selfish people can’t comprehend doing anything by themselves. It ruins their psyche. It’s a culture shock.

If someone expects you to take care of them like the Queen of England, run.

They’re picky about the luxuries they have

I love my uncle to death, but he’s selfish just like me (and surprise, we’re both younger siblings).

You see, he’s been running around town with his head cut off looking for different jobs. He left the previous job he worked at for 14+ years. He had an issue with the managers.

My mom’s been a superhero relentlessly applying for jobs. My uncle doesn’t really know how to use a computer. So far, he’s gotten three different jobs and quit all of them after two days of working there.

His reason? They don’t have a long enough lunch break or they’re a little harder than he thought.

I mean, how can a maintenance job be that hard?!

He doesn’t seem to understand that he’s lucky my mom got him THREE different jobs. He doesn’t have much of a skill set to work with anyway.

Selfish people don’t understand that ANYTHING someone does for you is a luxury and you shouldn’t be picky about it. Stay away from someone who’d have a stank attitude when you do something nice for them.

They won’t apologize until you do it first

I hate being the first one to apologize.

I’ve been raised as if I’m always right. Almost like I deserve to be right. Therefore, I am right! Right?

Apologizing to someone else is showing weakness. Admitting you’re wrong first shows that you’re more wrong than the other person.

Selfish people can’t admit when they do something wrong. It’s not a part of their vocabulary. They’ve been treated as a special snowflake for so long they’ll never apologize first unless it’s a crazy mistake.

They get offended over EVERYTHING.

I’m not joking.

I’ve gotten offended before over one of my family members saying I had an odor. There’s no need to get offended over every little thing. Like, chill.

Again, it’s that pampering. That pampering will get you.

You not only have to treat selfish people like the President, but you have to treat them in a manner in which they want to be treated. If you’re not nice talking to them, anything you say will be taken as offensive.

They’ll never treat you on a night out.

My uncle and I (mostly my uncle) never treat our family on a night out.

They’ve offered to pay for us our whole lives. My mom has paid for my phone bill, extravagant restaurants, birthday parties, etc. Other people in my family also pay for my uncle, heavily. I mean, they always offered, so why not?

We never thought anything of it.

But that’s the definition of being selfish. You’re taking advantage of the resources people don’t have to give you. You’re abusing the kindness others show you. When they ask selfish people to return that same kindness, selfish people start making excuses.

They try to justify why they can’t help people out financially, even when they make a decent income.

Selfish people are leeches.

They suck the life out of everyone until they can’t do it anymore. And they get a rude awakening when they find out the world isn’t as fuzzy as their family made it out to be.

No one’s going to hold your hand through this shit. You either carry your own weight or accept defeat.
