If you have more than 3 pinned stories

I’m not scrolling down any further to read your newest

Recently I decided to clean up my newsletter mailbox and to unsubscribe from anything I’m not actually reading rather just opening it. I want that virtual space to be filled only with stuff I read and care about. That is one of the reasons I’m not signing up for Medium writers’ newsletters. I do follow them, but I’m not a subscriber.

I like to open Medium and to see who published recently on top of my page and click on the profile and read new stuff. It’s my ritual of mindful online reading on topics I like.

There is one thing that puts me off no matter how good a writer you are — “million” pinned stories so I have to scroll all the way down to find the newest piece. I hate it and sometimes I even unfollow those writers which is a shame because if I started following them there was a reason for that.

I know that pinning can be great to “promote” your best stories or the ones that need more attention, at least that’s what some gurus say.

If you are one of them, could you please explain to me what’s the reasoning behind pinning that many stories? Maybe I’m looking it wrong and I need a different perspective.

Thank you for reading my another rant, the last one in 2021.

For $5 a month you can get access to every story published here on Medium. Just a heads up, this is an affiliate link and I will receive half of that payment as a commission.

If you would like to receive an email with my newest stories, you can subscribe here.
