There’s nothing wrong with having your own niche, and over time I’ve refined the topics I write about into ones that I really enjoy writing about. To find your niche in writing, think about what you enjoy talking about and learning about.
The more you write in your chosen niche, the more you build a reputation for being able to write about those topics with ease. [Sources: 0, 8, 14]
The 3 reasons why you should consider writing niche articles
- * 1 — Creative writing opportunities
If you’re an experienced writer with a lot of mid-career commissions and an extensive network of contacts, you might be able to carve a niche for writing. If you have a personal interest or experience in that niche, you can use it to become a well-paid writer in that niche.
Since not many writers focus solely on sports, this niche offers an opportunity to make money, especially for those with in-depth knowledge (or even personal experience) of a particular sport. If you can work in this niche, you will have very creative writing opportunities. [Sources: 2, 5, 10, 12]
If you love storytelling and enjoy creative writing, this could be an interesting and lucrative niche. You will become a popular writer with only one niche and you will be able to dominate the market.

I believe you can be an expert in almost anything, but when choosing a writing field to start your freelance writing career, choosing a subject you already have authority on can make it easier for you to get a job.

Technical writers can write manuals, technical blog posts, and other topics. For most freelance writers, clients are looking for qualified writers in a specific field.
