If You Don’t Blow Your Trumpet, Who Will?
Imposter syndrome is a real beast. How to ‘blow’ it away

Do you usually feel like you’re constantly underselling yourself? Are you worried about bragging or seeming arrogant? Friend, that was me!
Let’s talk about blowing your own trumpet. And no, I don’t mean learning a new instrument (although, if that’s your thing, go for it!). I’m talking about celebrating your achievements, shouting about your skills, and embracing the power of self-promotion.
Look, imposter syndrome is a real beast. It whispers doubts, makes you downplay your successes, and convinces you to stay quiet while others trumpet their every accomplishment. But here’s the harsh truth: if you don’t tell the world about your awesomeness, who will?
Think about it:
- Opportunities don’t magically appear. They often come through connections and self-promotion. By highlighting your skills and achievements, you open yourself up to new possibilities and collaborations.
- Silence breeds invisibility. While humility is admirable, hiding your talents keeps you hidden. Let your light shine! Share your knowledge, showcase your work, and inspire others.
- Confidence is contagious. When you believe in yourself and celebrate your wins, it empowers others to do the same. Be a beacon of self-belief and inspire a wave of positivity.
But how do you do it without sounding like a braggart? Here’s the key: authenticity.
- Focus on value, not vanity. Don’t just list your achievements. Share how they helped others, what you learned, and the value you bring to the table.
- Be specific, not self-aggrandizing. Instead of saying “I’m amazing,” highlight a specific project, skill, or achievement and explain why you’re proud of it.
- Celebrate others too. Showcasing your accomplishments doesn’t have to come at the expense of others. Uplift and celebrate the wins of your colleagues and community.
Blowing your trumpet isn’t bragging, it’s owning your narrative, sharing your value, and inspiring others. It’s claiming your space in the world and saying “Yes, I’m good at this, and I’m proud of it!”
Toot your horn! Share your wins, write about them, celebrate your skills, make some noise and live your awesomeness. You might be surprised at the opportunities and connections that open up when you stop waiting for someone else to tell the world how amazing you are.
Guess what, sometimes you have to teach people how you want to be treated. Give yourself your flowers! Hype yourself. You are definitely one of the best at what you do, so why wait for others to tell you that? If you don’t blow your own trumpet, no one else will? Now go out there and make some noise!
