If You are Alone at Christmas . . .
⭐ Some easy ways to enjoy yourself or be productive ⭐
Not everyone has to be in a festive crowd to enjoy themselves at Christmas, and being alone doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you; anyone who knows about ‘flow’ can tell you that. So here is a list I hope will light you up soon!🎄
- Focus on doing things you enjoy, e.g. hobbies, crafts, music, writing, home decorating, drawing, or painting. If you have a computer, you can take an informal course and learn something from udemy.com or other similar websites. There are so many fun courses online now that one is bound to catch your eye.
- Remember, you don’t have to celebrate or stuff your face with food just because other people do. You can make good use of time and start a health and fitness regime right now if you want to — and feel great for the new year.
- Go outdoors whenever you can. You can’t beat fresh air for whatever you’re going through - it just makes you feel more alive and upbeat. Walk, run, cycle - you get the picture. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t feel better after having been outdoors, especially near trees, fields, lakes, or beaches. Despite any pollution, the air is still fresher and you get to feel it move.
- Volunteer to help a good cause or someone you know, or connect virtually with cheerful people on Zoom.
- Phone someone for a friendly chat if they are sad or lonely. Cheer them up with your best self— This is a win-win situation. Whatever the outcome, you’ll be glad you tried to help.
- Do simple indoor stretching (preferably to Smooth Chill Radio if you have it). It’s great for flexibility, toning up your body, and making it more comfortable. There are loads of beginner videos online if you haven’t tried stretching before. You can even do leg stretches on a firm bed if you have one. Please don’t attempt any moves that may upset existing health conditions.
- Read books or write one. There’s nothing like a good book to take your focus somewhere else.
- Write a song or play a musical instrument — any way you like, or listen to some uplifting or melodic music.
- Bake yourself a fancy cake, or cook something you love.
- Play indoor games with your pet.
Sensible but satisfying …
- De-clutter rooms or cupboards in your home. This is good for making you feel that things are in order and under control and that you’re ready for the new year.
- Sort out clothes and shoes you no longer need and pack them up ready to take to the charity or recycle bank.
Things to avoid …
- Stay off social media sites which give some people the impression that others are having a better time than them. Remember: people only post their best photos/videos, which are small snapshots in time. You don’t know anything about their real inner life or how they feel day by day, so it’s best not to judge at all.
- Stay away from TV news — it may often cause distress or disappointment and you still won’t know the reality of a story because of how it’s reported.
Lastly, be sure to love your custom-made holiday, as good memories are for keeping all your life.
Thanks for reading!
